Description
This auction is for a huge pair of Coin Silver Serving Spoons in the engraved "Baltimore" style similar to Samuel Kirk's "Maryland" pattern. They measure 8 7/8" in length and they have a combined weight of 3.67 Oz. Troy. These spoons are hallmarked "C.H. Pepar" for Charles H. Pepar. Pepar owned shops in Baltimore, MD on West Pratt and West Baltimore Streets from 1846-1895 (Reference: the Baltimore Museum of Art's 18th and 19th Century Maryland Silver pg. - 193). Pepar is listed as a jeweler and probably only a retailer. These may have been produced by Kirk or another local smith then wholesaled to Pepar for retail sale. Both of the spoons are in superb condition with virtually no wear. The engraving and feathering along the outer edge of the handle is sharp, clear and complete. They are monogrammed with the initials "FET" in period script. Thank you for taking the time to view my auction.
