The set is done in the Old French pattern which was first produced in 1904. This is a classic and very elegant pattern. This set has both the large dinner size and the luncheon size in both the knives and forks. Five of the dinner knives are monogrammed CK, and five are monogrammed CLK. All the other pieces are monogrammed with an O in Gothic script. The set includes: 10 dinner knives: 9 5/8 inches 12 luncheon knives: 8 3/8 inches 12 dinner forks: 7 3/4 inches 12 luncheon forks: 7 1/4 inches 12 salad or dessert forks: 7 1/8 inches 12 teaspoons: 5 1/2 inches 12 huge round soup spoons: 6 7/8 inches 10 place spoons: 7 inches 11 cocktail forks: 5 5/8 inches 5 serving spoons : 8 1/2 inches 5 demitasse spoons: 4 1/8 inches long Cake or pie server: 10 inches Serving fork: 7 1/8 inches Sugar spoon: 5 7/8 inches The dinner knives are marked Stainless on the blades and Stelring Handle on the handles. The luncheon knives and the cake server are marked on the handles with Gorham’s old company hallmarks and Sterling. The luncheon knives and the cake server have silverplated carbon steel blades. The silver plating on the blades is in excellent condition. None of the knives should go in the dishwasher. All the other pieces are hallmarked on the reverse with Gorham’s old company hallmarks, Sterling, and Pat. 1904. Many of the pieces have a mark for the retailer, Shreve, Crump & Low. Everything is sterling in this set except for the blades of the knives. I believe that the 12 salad or dessert forks listed above are probably large beef forks. A rare piece in this pattern. They can be used as salad or dessert forks. The condition is excellent. The set has some surface wear commensurate with age and light use, but this is minor. The cake server has some wear to the blade. There are no dents, no dings, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. Really remarkable condition for an old set. The weight is 4351.6 grams or 152.5 ounces. This does not include the weight of the 22 knives and pie/cake server with steel blades. This set comes with an optional, free, bonus box as seen in the photographs. The box is a felt lined wooden box. The box has surface wear but is effective in protecting the set against tarnishing. This box is free, and is not considered to be part of the value of this auction. If you do not want the box let us know and we can reduce shipping fees accordingly. The dark spots that you see on the flatware in the photos are merely reflections from the camera lens or camera or our lights. They are not defects or damages.
