Hand Carved Wooden Folk Art' Description Pair of hand carved figures. Man & woman look to be dressed like pilgrims? Late 1600's early 1700's looks like they are made of oak and have beautiful patina appropriate for their age. As for what they were used for, I don't know. All my research points to home decoration like main entrance or front porch columns. I am no expert if anyone knows please e-mail. The male figure is 20 5/8 ins. long, 4 3/8 wide, 1 1/2 in.  thick. On the back you can see 6 nail holes with 4 rose head nails still in place. 12 ins. up from bottom there is a 1/2 in. hole,cone shaped with threads in it. At the top there 3 small holes where the hanger was. On the front there is a chip out and scuff mark at right lower corner. Also on the right edge just above head are 3 small marks. Small scuff above elbow on left and small chip scuff at lower edge. Saw marks look to be that of a hand saw and there are remnants of glue. The female figure is 20 5/8 ins. tall, 4 3/8 in. wide, and 1 1/2 in. thick. Also in this piece there are 6 nail holes, 4 with rose head nails still in place. 2 small holes at top probably where hanger was. 2 cone shaped holes 1/2 in. with threads in them, 10 1/4 and 13 3/4 from bottom. On the front damage at the left eye looks very old. There are some chips at both edges on bottom, the worse being on the left. There is a split and chip at the edge on the right side of head. 2 scuffs top right edge. There is a chip at edge above right shoulder. A chip at left elbow. And 2 scuffs along the edge. She also has remnants of glue and saw marks looking to be hand sawed too. I've tried to describe these the best I can. Please look at photos as I have taken extra shots of damaged areas.
