Description
1800,s American USA Carved HAND Holding PASTRY CUTTER DescriptionThis is a really outstanding work of art in its own right... it is carved bone which is modelled as a sleeved hand  holding a kitchen pastry cutter - jigger ...you cannot really see what size this is until your holding it in your hand. I'm not too sure if this has been made to use as an actual pastry cutter or its been made for an Exhibition to show off work.. then again it could well be a Napoleonic Prisoner of War item ...being oversized . As you can see it is carved from Bone which has then been inlaid with a black material ..this could be wood or it could possibly be stained bone. any part which is black is a seperate added piece. It has 3 circular Buttons ...MISSING .. on the sleeve.. you can see where they have been from the insets.( I like to leave items as i find them ...these could be restored of course by a steady hand ) The sleeve is very life like with the black edge line as well as the 3 buttons ...then the hand .. this has nails carved ..which in turn then becomes the pastry wheel... the handle is a tapered section and has a black part as well as a black LEAF on both sides. The wheel is moveable and goes around as it is supposed to ... its NOT fixed..its not carved in a fixed position...it has been a seperate bit of bone slotted in and held in place by a pin...which can be seen on both sides.I  bought this from a large country deceased house estate in North Yorkshire last year ..be assured it is a genuine antique and not a modern copy item . the bone has natural cracks in it which are due to it drying out ..it is a little grubby too with brownish marks.. these may come off but again i dont really clean my antiques as a rule so i will leave that up to the next owner....it is really well madoelled and could be used .. it fits perfectly in my hand using the SLEEVE as the handle part... it is very tactile and could well have been made to use.It could have been made on a ship too ...emmigration time to America ... someone did say it could be American in origin too..any info would be greatly appreciated...     The whole item is 10inches long x just over 1 and a 1/4inch at the end of the sleave... the hand is 1 and 3/4inches across the fingers ...and the pastry wheel is 2 and a 1/4inch dia .   I do combine shipping. If a scale is shown it is in CENTIMETRES ... 2.5cm = 1 inchPlease just click on a picture of the item and a new window opens up where the photographs are all enlarged ..scroll through each one to make sure you have seen the beauty of the item. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Click here  GEORGIAN HOUSE COLLECTABLESto see my EBAY SHOP items which are BUY IT NOW or Best Offers..these items dont show up on normal Ebay searches.  <<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>> For my full Terms & Conditions please  View My About Me page  Please note the items I sell are antique or vintage and as such have been around for many years, they will show signs of use and whilst I will describe condition to the best of my ability, everyone has a different idea of condition.  Please study my photo's  and ask any questions before bidding.Payment by PAYPAL ~ DIRECT BANK TRANSFER or STERLING CHEQUE only Please ASK questions before bidding.  I SELL   WIDE                        diggerlee store
