A very fine American folk art carved and painted sewing bird, or quilting clamp Pincushion top Wood construction Folk art painted in stripes of red, black and green on a painted white ground surface Convex shape end is inscribed in black ink: " THINE FOREVER " Appears to date toe early 1800s, most probably Federal Period, definetly American made Surface was varnished at one time now showing losses to the varnish. The pincushion appears to be original, showing two small nails as later reinforcements. This measures: 3 1/2 in. tall without the screw lock 2 1/2 in. wide Condition: All the aforementioned, and pincushion material shows wear consistent with age and use.
