Description
This auction is for 3 panels of a carousel topper from the mid 1800's - early 1900's. The panels are very elaborate and heavily beaded with glass cylindrical Venetian or Russian beads. The long fringe is also made of beads. The backing is a burgandy red heavy linen/canvas type material. They have loops at the top and are strung on metal rods. Each section is 28" long (including the beaded fringe) and 5 feet wide. These were acquired from a Portland, Oregon estate. There is a note on the back of one of the panels stating that these were part of a Wild West show carousel and should be in a museum. The family states that the deceased purchased these from a long time carousel repair shop located in Oregon City/Molalla area of Oregon many years ago. At any rate, they are quite beautiful. I have never seen anything like them and I have not been able to find any other beaded carousel panels for sale on ebay or elsewhere. They are quite unique.
