The old desk came from an estate in Western Kentucky where it was used to store hunting ammunition. The desk has two drawers and the top drawer has a lock, this was where the gunpowder and ammo was stored and the large bottom drawer was where the hunting vest was kept. The top of the desk above the drawers has a lot of character marks and stains. The stains are from where the hot kerosene lanterns were placed when the men would come in from hunting. There are also some stains inside the drawers, the top drawer probably from oil and gunpowder, the large bottom drawer possibly from the hunting vest. The sides of the desk is made from one board which is 24 inches wide. The drawers are very unusual, the old pulls are handmade from walnut wood and have two bolts that fasten them on. The desk is made from mixed wood, mostly poplar and walnut. The desk has been professionally refinished and looks great. The finish is a medium tone walnut stain with several coats of hand applied sealer and hand waxed. The desk is put together with mixed nails, mostly square.
