Description
I am selling a 2 ½ story 1809 Log House that measures 35’ across the front and 28’ 4" deep. It is approximately 1800 square feet. It sits on a .2 acre lot with city water and sewer. It has newer 100 amp electrical service. It has a furnace that is about 6 years old. It has a full bath on the second floor. It is located in Juniata County, Pennsylvania – about half way between Harrisburg and State College – Home of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Most of the wood siding is removed and I am in the process of removing the balance of the wood siding. The logs – yellow pine – about 75% of them look to be solid and intact. About 2/3 of the north side logs have damage – some are intact and cutting them down in length can reuse some. The south side logs are in very good condition and the jointed ends are good. The east and west side logs are good – but some have damage on the north end. The house sits on a mortared stone foundation and has a crawl space. Some of the first floor joists have rot and will need replaced. The roof trim is weathered, but appears solid and intact. There appears to have been a second front door to the right of the existing front door. The existing front door measures 38" and has a glass transom above it. The some of exterior walls are lathed on the diagonal and are plastered, probably horsehair. There were 4 rooms on the first floor. The front right room measured 17’ 8" X 16’. The front left room measured 14’ 10" X 16’ 2". The kitchen measured 21’ X 10’ 2". The other back room measured 10’ X 11’ 6". The ceiling height on the first floor is 95". The ceiling is covered with narrow beaded boards. There is a front staircase in line with the existing front door and evidence of a "dog trot" hallway. The second floor had four rooms, one having been converted to a bathroom. The front right room measured 16’ X 11’ 6". The other front room measured 16’ X 15’. There is a "dog trot" hallway that measured 6’ wide and runs from front to back. The bathroom measured 10’ X 11’ 7" and the other back room measured 10’ 4" X 14’ 10". Second floor ceilings are 93" high and covered with beaded boards There is a stairway to the attic. Roof joists are pegged at the peak. It has a tin roof over lath. The summer beam that is exposed in the first floor ceiling measures 12" X 10" The floor joists are fitted into stepped pockets in the summer beam. The joists are planed and beaded on the bottom edges. There are no interior walls and no flooring. You would be buying just the log crib. The Log House is for sale for $15.500– It will need to be dismantled and moved by the buyer. Several local companies are skilled in dismantling and rebuilding log homes and available to tackle this project. You can also buy the lot for $30,000 You may contact me – Bob – at 717-994-1277
