1870 LEBEGUE FRENCH TERRESTRIAL ANTIQUE GLOBE French terrestrial globe From the geography I believe this globe is from the 1870's , It shows no Romania , Congo is not yet name free state of Congo ( 1877) and is mostly unexplored ( see picture). Please feel free to Email with question to insure accuracy on possible exact date , we can check the railways line or country boundaries ( see attached pictures) .There are all of the telegraph lines from 1869 but no Austro-Hungarian Empire only Autriche ( Austria). The surface condition is good but not perfect , some scratches, some browning of the varnish , there is some restoration over a part of Indian ocean near Madagascar , a crack in the Pacific, Hawaii is missing to to map loss ( touch up), some touched up ding near the South pole ( ocean) . Overall all of the countries are easy to read and to discern. The printing is really nice and well done , this type of globe belong to the tradition of globe making of the 19th century : 12 full gores on a solid ball of plaster .The colored outline of the country point to an early edition. The cast iron base in the style of Violet -leduc is a trademark of Lebegue . Overall while it is not in pristine condition I believe it is a good value in term of historical content and decorative cachet .There is a repair inside of one of the leg , it cannot be seen from the outside , it is visible inside if you turn the base upside down. Size: globe D. 14 inches , H.23 , overall very good condition but not pristine , in view of the cost of buying in Euro it is a good opportunity to purchase an expensive import. CAUTION : I sell antiques so expect a normal tear and wear to show even if all my pieces are refinished and considered in perfect antique condition .Californian resident to pay sale tax. Small touch up in the Indian Ocean , another near Madagascar, another near Tasmanie , no loss of land map . Hawaii is missing due to a touch up in the Pacific Ocean , the touch up is not really discernable , I left the base with its patina but it can be wax to revive the metal. No South and North Dacota ( 1891), most territory still with name of the tribes on those reservation. Congo not yet Free State of Congo ( 1885) some of its border not yet explored( north) There is no clear mention of the Suez chanel ( 1869) , Autriche is not yet the Austro-Hungrian Empire ( 1868) , , overall it seems the date of production should mid to late 1870's. Antartica not yet explored and only mention as an Ocean. Groenland and Polar cap not fully explored.
