Description An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE 1888 edition of Mitchell's New Intermediate Geography. For over 400 years printed maps had been hand watercolored but by the end of the 19th century virtually all maps were machine colored. One of the last hold-outs was S. Augustus Mitchell's company which produced some of the most beautiful maps of the 19th century. Offered today is one of the last Hand Watercolored Atlases from that time period. Measuring 10 by 12 1/2 inches this atlas contains 23 hand watercolored maps, the first half illustrating the various States and Territories of the United States, the second half dealing with the various countries and Continents around the World. The maps show a LOT of detail. A special section in the back deals with map drawing and includes a beautiful 2 page map of the State of Pennsylvania. Binding and spine are intact and tight.  Covers are a bit loose and have been reinforced inside the covers with cloth tape. Title page is intact but front fly page(which I assume was blank) is missing. All the maps are present and in good to excellent condition. Maps in the first 1/3 of the book have a bit of wear to the bottom of the page, only the U.S. map and map of New England have small tears that cross the border into the map itself.  On Feb-25-07 at 10:43:18 PST, seller added the following information: Place a Bid!
