If you like textiles from the Victorian era that evoke visions of ladies and gentlemen at the beach, descreetly dressed in their long, sometimes wool bathing suits then you will absolutely love the pillow I just finished made with this in mind! The ends remind me of a beach umbrella. This is genuine 19th Century French linen herringbone ticking.  This I purchased from the French dealer of textiles at the CALM antique show in Santa Barbara.  Just preparing this textile for sewing was a lot of work.  This is not reproduction ticking and it took many washings in oxyclean and strong detergent to get it clean~ I also had to take out many numourous pieces of imbedded , heavy twine which is how the original mattress was hand sewn together.  This was also a costly piece and even though I bought the whole thing, most of it is unusable .  This pillow was made from the more protected bottom side of the mattress.  Just cutting this piece into a long rectangle was a trick because of the tendancy for it to be wavy , until it is actually sewn into the final item which is now beautifully smooth!  I don't usually go to such lengths to describe the work I have put into making something but in this case I felt is was somewhat important as I am beginning this listing at its rock bottom price .  This lovely tickings colors are a very soft warm grey, with solid white and primary red stripes.  It is handwoven , herringbone weave, 100% PURE linen~* To show you an accurate closeup of the grey color and the red color, I took a picture next to a white piece of paper ~see last picture! 29" in circumfrance  20 inches long Gathers to a point on each side , sewn by hand then sewn by machine for strength with a round linen medalian. zipper opening with a professional down feather bolster insert inside (included) A lovely addition to your cottage style home or collection of fine tickings.  There are only a very few tiny imperfections which only add to the charm and offer themselves as proof to its heritage, Absolutley no stains, holes or smells~ clean and ready to use!
