Current Lot A pair of George II sauceboats Paul de Lamerie, London 1750-51 the bellied body with everted gadrooned scalloped rim with scrolling shell detail and engraved armorial under the spout, with muscular S-scroll handle and lion mask terminal, raised on four claw and ball feet with large sweeping lion mask terminals (2) 23cm wide, 14cm high, 42oz Heraldry: The arms of Richard, 1st Baron Edgcumbe of Mount Edgcumbe, Devonshire and Cotehele, Cornwall. M.P. for Cornwall, he was created a peer in 1742, he died in 1758 The family moved to Mount Edgcumbe in the 17th century but they continued to own Cotehele until 1947 when it was accepted by the Treasury in payment of death duty and given to the National Trust. This was the first property in Britain to be acquired by Trust via the 'in lieu of death duty' route. Note: One with engraved scratch weight of 23 = 5 in contemporary script to side of base
