Steeped in the traditional style of the Louis XVI era, with beautiful rocailles and acanthus leaves making up the perfectly restained and elegant form, this is quintessential French. This set is a 72-piece service for 12 people (6 pieces per person) plus the large and heavy soup ladle as #73 - and has just arrived from our Paris silversmith who has given it a fabulous fine professional polish. The knives are superb for antique silver handled knives, and rare to find along with the matching pieces owing to the traditions regarding knives as gifts, and French sterling as traditional wedding gifts (knives are viewed as representative of the cutting of a relationship, so are usually purchased separately - usually with complimenting style but not necessarily matching as we're used to in the USA flatware styles. The chest is not original, but is wonderful with this set, as well. This one would be late 1800s, and is by French silversmith as marked within the tiny diamond-shaped punch mark, but we have not been able to reference the mark yet - just beginning our research on this one . It is not one of the more famous makers, but is a fine heavy set. Also .950/1000 purity heavy old French sterling. Excellent brilliant 'as new' professionally polished silver of heavy old French scale and style - superb and table-ready.
