Description
This 8 mile road sign is 29 inches long by 6inches tall and is 1 inch thick. The old black paint is crazed and you can still see the clamp marks where it would have been clamped on to the pole. It is one sided and the letters are white and raised. The story behind it is that a man who worked for the Detroit DPW in the 30's and 40's salvaged all the signs after the war when they got rid of the wood signs and converted back to metal. His grandson many years later during the selling and inspection of his grandfathers home in East Detroit discovered that his grandfather had used all the signs he salvaged by turning them facedown and using them as floor boards in his attic! He tore up one floor board and realized that there were 112 nailed down! Crazy story, trust me it true and very cool I might add. I will be posting the pics tonight after work! Thanks for looking!
