WE HAVE TAKEN THIS WONDERFUL PIECE TO A FRIEND WHO DOES ANTIQUE IDENTIFICATION FOR THE ELITE AND WHO HAS DONE SOME WORK FOR OUR LOCAL MUSEUM. HE AUTHENTICATED THE PIECE AS APPROX 1890, ENAMELED OVER SILVER AND FRENCH IN ORIGIN. UNDER HIGH MAGNIFICATION HE FOUND THE REMNANTS OF A NUMBER MARKING ON THE INNER LIP OF THE LID. THE OUTSIDE EDGE ON THE TOP HE BELIEVES AT ONE TIME WAS ENAMELED AS WELL BUT OVER TIME FROM HANDLING OF THIS AREA HAS TURNED TO A DEEP PATINA OF THE SILVER BENEATH, HOWEVER THE REST OF THE ENAMELING IS ALMOST PRISTINE AND THE INTEGRITY OF THE PIECE HAS NOT BEEN COMPROMISED . IT IS ENAMELED ON THE FRONT AND BACK IN A DEEP BURGUNDY  AND ON THE LID HAS BEEN LAYERED WITH AN INTRICATE DESIGN OF AN OPENED CLAM SHELL WITH A SINGLE PEARL IN THE CENTER SURROUNDED BY SEAWEED AND A SPECKLED GOLD ENAMELING. THE CASE ITSELF IS IN A CLAMSHELL SHAPE. THE INSIDE IS COVERED IN A BLUE VELVET WITH HOOKS AT THE TOPS TO HANG THE PEARLS FROM. THE VELVET IS IN AMAZING CONDITION WITH NO TEARS THINNING OR DAMAGE. THIS PIECE HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR AND APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN STORED METICULOUSLY AND CAREFULLY AWAY FROM DAMAGING TEMPERATURES AND ELEMENT'S. However as of late the shipping costs have incresed due to rising gas prices and usps relys on box size as well as weight, so if an item is larger and requires a bigger box I may ship parcel post under my discretion if priority is much to high. Shipping insurance is recommended on any item especially fragile pieces but is not required. Please keep in mind once a package leaves me it is now in the hands of the postal service if item is lost or damaged and insurance is not purchased I will not be responsable for any such loss. Should you purchase insurance and the item becomes lost or damaged I will provide you with any information needed to help you process a claim but it will be buyers responsability to file any such claim with the post office.
