Description
ANTIQUE PAINTED STAINED GLASS WINDOW SAINT HUBERTO Offering an antique painted stained glass window depicting saint huberto. Here is what i have on him. According to legend, hurertus, who lived in belgium in the late 7th and early 8th centurieswas a great hunter, sometimes at the expense of his religious life. Hunting was particularly good in the forests of the ardennes, and on one good friday, hubertus went stag hunting while the others in his village attended church. Deep in the forest he came upon a great stag in a clearing and when the animal turned toward him he saw a shining crucifix between the stags antlers. Falling to his knees astonished he heard a voice from the stag telling the hunter that unless he mended his ways he would end up in the fires of hell. Hubertus asked whay he should do and the stag replied that he should see the bishop of Maestricht who would furnish him with religous guidance. Later ordained a priest he eventually became bishop of Liege. In time St. Hubertus became the patron saint of hunters. His feast day is nov. 3. It was salvaged from an english hunting lodge and was made around 1880. The window was reframed in oak and has plexiglass on one side. There are 4 pieces with cracks, no loss, there is a slight bow at the bottom, one of the reinforcing bars has come out but overall good condition. The glass is tight in the cambing. Overall measurements are 42 inches wide, 61 tall and 2 1/2 thick. The glass only is appx 38 5/8 by 58. Please see shipping section for info on pick up or delivery. I generally ship within 3 days of receipt but i am on call 24/7 and do get a lot of last minute salvage jobs. I get a call and the demolition contractor tells me i have 2 days to strip an entire house. Some large items may take up to 2 weeks to pack and ship. I accept returns only if there is an error in the description. If i pull an item from a house that i think is original and is later found out to be a reproduction or if i type an incorrect measurement in the description i will take the item back. I do my best to accurately describe an item and any and all damage or problems. Measurements will be within 1/8 of an inch. My salvage business was born of necessity. I started restoring an 1896 victorian in 1993 and the house had seen better days. I needed doors and staircase parts among other things. I contacted the owners of several buildings scheduled for demolition and bought the salvage rights to get the items i needed for my house and had a lot left over which i sold. 15 years later this is my full time job. I am always looking to buy salvage rights and architectural antiques, finders fees gladly paid.
