The etui opens to reveal a stunning red watered silk and matching cord interior, with fitted spaces for a stiletto, scissors, needle case, bodkin and thimble (which are sadly missing). The etui undoubtedly originated from the Palais Royal area of Paris, where the greatest artisans of the period were producing and selling to the rich clientele. An example of this type of etui can be seen in Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries, on page 122 (plate no 132) AGE Early 19th century, circa 1830. SIZE The etui measures 13cm (5") long, 6cm (2¼") wide and 2.2cm (¾") high. CONDITION The etui is in a very good/excellent condition for age, with no fading to the wood, which is still a deep rich colour. The brass inlay is all still in place, as is the interior, although there is some light fading to the silk. Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition.
