These are transfer printed in a very deep brown, almost purpleish black with additional added prattware colors over the transfer and an ochre trim along the edge of the saucer and rim of the cup. The glaze is a lovely clear blueish pearlware glaze. The patten is known as the Woodman pattern which was copied by other makers after Spode introduced this pattern originally in the early 1800's. This cup and saucer aren't marked but they were made ca. 1820's in England (probably Staffordshire or possibly by one of the North East potteries in Newcastle/Sunderland). The saucer measures 4-3/4" across and the cup measures 2-7/8" across and 2" deep. Condition is perfect: no chips, no cracks and no repairs. There is age crazing of the glaze and there are a few flaws in the transfer (most noticeably a line in the transfer over the saucer, see close-up picture) but these happened during manufacture. Please excuse any glares (white patches) that you may see in the pictures, these are caused by reflections of light on the glaze and are not on the actual object itself.
