Description
This has got to be my favorite primitive trench bowl yet! It is covered with curly bird's eye markings. As you can see by the well-worn sides and bottom, it is very old. Measuring a huge 21" by 11" by 4" tall, it is truly a Birds eye maple lovers dream. The evenly distributed pattern of tigers eye is breathtaking and its graceful shape just enhances the patina of this rare gigantic piece of nature's art. The tiger maple stripe rim is so smooth to the touch that you can just feel the history in its well-worn surface. This antique dough bowl dates from the late 1800's to about 1910. It could very well be much older.  Hand carved out of a single piece of honey colored wood, it was dry to the touch with no type of finish but I did apply beeswax to ensure stability and to enhance the figured wood. On the bottom there are finger holds or handles carved into the bowl. The underside of the bowl does have a stain in the middle that I did not attempt to remove, as it does not show when the bowl is displayed. Only when you turn it upside down is it visible. Being antique, it does have signs of wear including two fine lines in the bottom that when held up to bright sunlight you can see through. I have felt the thickness in that area and it is NOT thin and is very stable not really that noticeable-just want to accurately describe. By appearance I would say this is the burl part of wood since it has a circular pattern to the wood that radiates out from the center. You just feel the history of this farmhouse staple and the many meals lovingly prepared with it. I decided to put this up for sale now instead later so it could be enjoyed for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. What a wonderful centerpiece for your table this would make!  Plenty of pictures to help you decide but If you need more or have any additional questions, just email me NO RESERVE
