Description
ANTIQUE STERLING PUMP ORGAN LATE 1800          Up for Auction is a beautiful carved oak Antique Sterling Company Pump Organ Style 35 with 12 pull knob handles. (http://www.plumblibrary.org/researchsterlingpiano.htm) There is a copy of the original ad for this organ.   Sterling Company was founded in 1845, After the Civil War, parlor organs became more popular, especially with the large amount of sentimental ballads that developed from that conflict. Young ladies were trained to play these organs.   From this web site, I found that Sterling Organ/Pianos are made with full iron frames covering the entire wrest plank, giving perfect solidity and firmness. The sounding boards are from carefully selected spruce, no soft pine or any other material. The backs are built up very strongly. Carving of each organ was done by very talented employees.    This Organ has most of its original parts.  The only repair I am aware of that is the foot petals have been recovered.  My 94 year old grandmother did this by hand.   If you are looking for a piece of furniture that will bring conversation when someone walks into the room, that has character and charm, plus an instrument to play, you have found it.    The dimensions are approx 77 “ H x 22” D x  52” L, this is the two pieces together.     PLEASE NOTE THIS ITEM IS IN ST. PETERSBURG, FL   ZIP CODE: 33701   Buyer is responsible for all pick up arrangements and costs.     UPDATED AS OF 11-17-08 THE NEEDLEPOINT STOOL WILL GO WITH WINNING BID.
