Description
Welcome to the Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts! Enjoy our selections from the heart of New England, created in the mill towns of the Valley or brought here by families from around the world. Here you will find the beautiful and useful things they couldn't do without.... Quite rare 1800s HAND MADE Bucks Point lace handkerchief! Beautiful hand made lace wedding hanky with superb hand made lace surround. Lace has been made especially for a hanky, not a straight piece that is then gathered at the corners, but made to fit. Such handkerchiefs are museum-worthy, and about as rare as can be. Center linen is damaged, but can be replaced, it's the lace that counts. Color is an even pale cream. Please note the features: the fine and wonderfully varied meshes and fillers, the tiny wheatears filling the openwork at the edges and corners, and most especially the lacy "fringes" that surround the different meshes, outlined themselves with a delicate gimp, these lacy motifs being a significant characteristic of Bucks Point lace, also known as Buckinghamshire and Midlands. Hard to believe every bit of it is by hand but it is. What a wonderful thing to have as a wedding memento, its age and refinement a symbol of enduring love. You knowledgable collectors know this type of lace doesn't come along very often. Here is your chance. Measurements: Measure 13" square, corner lace is 5" deep measured on an angle from one corner in to the linen, 3" deep on the long sides.Condition: The lace seems to be in perfect condition, no discolorations, no breaks; center linen has holes, see pictures.Care: Wash by hand with care, dry on towel, iron carefully. With so many wonderful things to choose from on ebay, we try to make it as easy as possible for you to get to know River Valley Textiles and what we have to offer, so if you have a moment, please click on about me. Textiles were never meant to be seen and not touched, their very name implying a tactile connection. We try to meet the challenge of picturing and describing them well enough so that what we have at our fingertips comes as close as possible to yours. If you need more information, let us know, but keep in mind that all judgements about age and origin are only that, based on experience and research.Bidding suggestion: Many bidders wait until an auction is nearly over to bid, but they don't have to. Once you decide to go ahead, you can simply enter the highest amount you are willing to pay and the ebay computer will do your bidding for you. No one will know what that amount is but you and only the lowest amount will show on the listing. If a higher bid comes in, this automatic bidding on your behalf will go up to and just exceed that bid and you will pay only a little more to win the auction, but never more than the highest bid you entered. Try it once and you will see how it works. And as long as the auction is still going, you can always go back and bid more if you like -- with no limits except your good judgement! Paypal preferred! WE TRY TO KEEP YOUR COSTS DOWN. Unfortunately ebay charges have gone up along with paypal fees and rising costs for packing materials and transportation. To help make these expenses affordable, we add a small handling fee to every item. SAVE ON SHIPPING COST. Please note the shipping options on your invoice. First Class mail is less expensive than Priority and often takes no longer unless you are across the country, and then only an extra day or two. For weightier items, Parcel Post is significantly less expensive than Priority but takes from 1 to 7 days longer depending on distance mailed. If you choose the less expensive Parcel Post, be prepared for a longer wait, but please do not attribute the delay to River Valley Textiles in your feedback stars. We send goods out daily in order to minimize waiting time, but have no control over postal delays and appreciate your 5-star ratings when we have done our best. OUR FEEDBACK, INCLUDING THE STAR DETAILS, IS VERY IMPORTANT. If you have concerns before or after receiving your item, please contact us for resolution to ensure a positive result. Your enthusiastic star ratings is our goal, so if we have provided excellent service, don’t hold back. Your 5-star ratings translate into reduced ebay fees and enhance our ability to provide you with the goods you love. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS can determine ship cost by going to www.usps.com and using 3 ounces for this item, or contact us for that information. (If an item goes over 4 lbs, there is a significant surcharge for overseas shipping, so we try to keep the weight under 4 lbs, but no guarantee.) First class international mail is the least expensive choice but may take several weeks for delivery, so patience is in order. Once again, we mail out goods daily to minimize your waiting time and deeply appreciate your 5-star ratings when we have done our best. HERE --> Please scroll down for enlargements of pictures. Most items are found locally and are one of a kind. New England, and western Massachusetts in particular, provide rich sources of vintage and antique goods at the many country stores, flea markets, auctions, shows, and private estates that the area is famous for. See about me for more on the rich history of the Connecticut River Valley. Items are nearly always in "used" condition, but are as close to perfect as possible, the exceptions being those of significant interest or beauty with inescapable flaws due to age. Goods will arrive clean and without odors unless otherwise noted. Color tones on pictures may vary due to uncontrollable natural light conditions.
