MADE IN GERMANY (1783)' Description I HAVE FOR SALE A ANTIQUE VIOLIN.................I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.    THIS WAS BOUGHT AT A CAR BOOT  SALE.  THE LADY SAID THAT IT BELONGED TO HER MOTHER AND IT HAD BEEN ON TOP OF THE WARDROBE FOR YEARS. I CAN ONLY TELL YOU WHAT I CAN SEE. ON THE INSIDE OF THE VIOLIN IS A PAPER LABEL WHICH HAS   JACOBUS    STAINER  IN ABSAM    PROPE OENIPONTUM  1783   MADE IN GERMANY. THERE IS NO OTHER MARKINGS ANYWHERE ON THE BODY.   The condition of the Violin is as follows...............The wooden case is in very good condition.   The inner lining where the base of the Violin sits has worn away with time. The Bow is in what looks like very good condition, although there is some Strands missing.   The Bow measures 73cm long. The Violin is in very good condition, it does have some minor rubbing and some of the Lacquer has worn off due to age, There is a very  small chip of timber missing from one of the points (as per photo).  The Violin needs restringing. It looks as if one of the tensioners have been replaced and it also looks like there has been a replacement Bridge. This Violin is very old and I am sure would have to be restored before being able to be played. The Violin Measures 60cm x 20cm at the widest end. The Violin weighs just over 2 Kilos.  The cubic measurments are 88 x 32 x 20. Overseas will be too 4 kilos as it will have to be packed very carefully.
