Description
WELCOME TO GETTES GALLERYOF FINE ART AND ANTIQUES Antique, Vintage, and Contemporary Art Smaller Antiques and Primitives      DESCRIPTION:  MID 1800'S EARLY AMERICAN PRIMITIVE FOLK ART WHALING SHIP MUSTARD YELLOW AND RED PAINT VERY LARGE   ONE OF A KIND unique LARGE AND HEAVY Early American Folk Art Ship with canons and boats tethered to rods, this handcrafted old folky whaling ship came from the Iron City Hotel which was built in Dover, Ohio in the 1840's and later became the Riverside Inn.  See photo above.  I am not an expert on Folk Art pieces, but I would estimate the age of this piece to be anywhere from 1840-late 1800's, most likely circa 1860-70's in age, as I was told from the last owner who has been an Antique Shop owner for many, many years.  Please see all pics and be the judge (it is very, very old).  The paint is all original in mustard yellow and red.  I gave it a cleaning to bring out the colors better as it was very dirty (the red looked black before it was cleaned). Both the front and back of the ship have metal pieces wrapped around them.  The nails are old irregular roseheads, rusted. There are 5 red handcarved boats which came with the ship, meant to hang from the hooks off the sides.  I replaced the strings which used to hold these red boats with metal lines (they were just lying in the ship's center when I bought it...I think they should be suspended horizontally instead of vertically, but I just attached them to metal strings).  The detailing is wonderful.  It even has an anchor and propeller on the back.  The Size is very Impressive and Large, measuring 36 inches long by 21 inches high (including masts) and approximately 10 inches wide.  True Folk Art enthusiasts will appreciate the primitive folkiness of this ship.   Too charming to pass up!  You won't find another Early American Folk Art Ship like this anywhere!  ONE OF A KIND!  See Shipping Information below. Flat Rate Shipping on this piece. Packing/Handling for this item already added onto shipping cost in the Shipping Calculator Section so you will see exactly what you are paying.  This is a huge package, Oversize 3; hence, the higher shipping cost.  Insurance will be added on by Shipping Calculator after auction.  I would recommend though that the winning bidder pick it up in person from our Martins Ferry, Ohio location, as it is very fragile and old.  However, we can have it professionally packed and shipped by UPS Ground for a flat rate of $150 to anywhere in the continental US.  No overseas or bidders out of the US on this one.  If it costs less to pack and ship to your zipcode, I will refund the difference to the buyer.  This is an Oversize 3 package (extra, extra large and very heavy).  We have a wonderful selection of quality artworks by listed artists and of highly collectible subject matter listed this week.  Enjoy browsing through my antiques, primitives, and paintings I have listed this week by going to "View Seller's Other Items" at the top of this page.  You are welcome to come view any artworks or items I have listed on ebay in person by appointment prior to bidding, or you may write me for additional photos or with questions.   All Sales Final.        Enjoy browsing through my antiques, primitives, and paintings I have listed this week by going to "View Seller's Other Items" at the top of this page.  You are welcome to come view any artworks or items I have listed on ebay in person by appointment prior to bidding, or you may write me for additional photos or with questions . All Sales Final. Thank you for your bids and Enjoy browsing through our listings this week.  You may view my other items by going to the top of this page and clicking on "View Seller's Other Items".  A note to Canadian and Overseas/Out of US bidders:  We allow Canadian and Overseas bidders on certain items, but not on Oversize 2/3 paintings which are too large to ship to foreign countries or items/paintings that are fragile or have glass over them.   Also, we are not responsible for any additional taxes your country charges such as general service, Provincial, or broker's fees once an item crosses over into your country.  These are taxes your country sometimes requires you to pay if they check the box or custom's label which have nothing to do with our gallery or ebay. If they check your package, they will go by what the item is insured for (which means we cannot mark it as a gift, as they will still look at the insurance amount and go by that).  We can insure the item for less if you request this, but know that we will only be responsible for the amount you ask us to insure the package for in case of any damages during transit. Thanks for taking note before bidding. I do my absolute best to give buyers the best service I can.  I feel I am very fair in my shipping/handling prices and also a careful packer, and I ship quickly so you can get your items right away (within 1-2 business days ~ Monday through Friday).  I also am great at communication and send tracking numbers with every item I ship (if you don't get one, check your spam folder settings.  It should be in there.)   I usually require the buyer to pay for professional packing via UPS for higher quality items/paintings which usually runs $15-$25 more depending on package size, the packing materials, the taxes, and UPS  labor charges for actually packing the item and insurance which I include all of which I include in the Shipping Calculator Estimates. I do not make any additional profit off this.  Again, when you realize I am selling fine art and antiques, this is extremely fair.  That way if a more expensive item gets damaged during transit, insurance is paid much more quickly for buyer's reimbursement because I have proof of professional packing by UPS as well as insurance.  I do this for the buyer's best interest.  I also list my items with the most information I have available.   I ask that my customers extend me the same courtesy in their ratings of my DSR and feedback.  I reserve the right to block any buyers or bidders I foresee as a problem . Thank you for taking note. We ask that our bidders read through our complete description and details. Antiques and paintings are fragile items, and we don't want them being shipped more than once so that is why we have an All Sales Final policy, sold as is. Our antiques/primitives and antique/vintage paintings usually have some natural aging to them as they are older so please take note (Please don't expect them to look perfectly new, even when stated in excellent condition as they are usually 50-150 years old or older...excellent or very good condition means for their age). We describe our items with much attention to detail as is reasonably possible, and for further inspection, we offer extra large photos so the buyer can take note of the painting or item being sold. Please look closely at these photos as they are fair representations of the item being offered and are larger than most sellers offer on ebay. Also keep in mind that colors can show somewhat differently on each individual computer monitor (colors may appear somewhat brighter or darker on the net as opposed to in person). If you have a question or would like additional photos, please write us and we would be glad to answer them.  Bidders are also always welcome to come and see any items for sale in person at our Martins Ferry, Ohio location. If an item, painting, or antique has any documents of authenticity which come with it, we state that in the description.  If I am not sure who the artist is or the piece is unsigned, I may offer a suggestion or possibility of who I think could have done it, but that is just a suggestion, not a statement of authenticity. Please reasonable and fair in your expectations as I am only trying to be helpful by offering an opinion. If the item has any mention of provenance, we state that and show whatever is noted. Terms: "Attributed to" usually means the painting is most likely the work of the artist , it may or may not be signed "Manner of" usually means the artwork is in the artist style...it may be from the same era or of a later date "After" usually means that the painting is a copy after the said artist ~ from his era or later "Circle of" means it is an artwork of the period of the artist that shows his influence "Follower of" usually indicates the work is in the artist's style, but not necessarily by one of his pupils "Signed by" usually means it was signed by the artist     PaymentThe winning bidder will receive an invoice with the amount due either after auction's end or the next day.  I will ask the buyer to contact me back within 3 days with their Payment Selection Method. If total of item plus shipping/insurance is over $400, buyer is requested to please send me a money order or cashier's check if possible to save on fees, but Paypal is still a viable payment option offered for the buyer's convenience.  If you are in Canada, please pay by Paypal or with an International Money Order only. No Overseas bidders. Payment is due within 10 days after auction's end. Reminders willwill be sent.        I accept the following forms of payment: PayPal Money Order Cashier's Check   Shipping Please use Shipping Calculator to provide cost to ship to your zipcode or country (Please note:  Oversize 2/3 packages or fragile items with glass will not be shipped overseas/Canada/out of continental US so No Bidders out of the US for those items).   Please use Ebay's Shipping Calculator at the bottom of this page to estimate shipping/handling/insurance to your zipcode. When I pack my items (items which I estimate will sell under $300), I generally only charge between $6.00-$10.00 for a new box and packing materials (exactly what I pay for them) then I add on insurance charges.  If an item is under $25 or requires no box charge (I have free smaller boxes from USPS Priority), I only charge the actual shipping price quoted to me online and do not add on any handling charge for these smaller, less costly items. Sometimes I require a fine quality or higher priced item to be professionally packed by UPS.  If an item is professionally packed by UPS (items which I estimate will sell over $300), I note that in the description, and the packing/handling/insurance charge is between $15-$25 extra onto on size of the package and whatever the shipping cost is to your zipcode. I will tell you if item requires professional packing by UPS and you will see the entire charge for shipping, handling/packing/insurance reflected in the Shipping Calculator.  Extra large boxes/packing cost a few dollars more for the box, and sometimes UPS charges a surcharge distance fee. This is very reasonable considering we are shipping Fine Art and want it shipped as safely as possible.  We require insurance on all packages over $25. I always state whether an item is Oversize 2/3 or extra large so the buyer will know in advance.  Thanks for taking note.We usually offer oil paintings from the 1700's, 1800's, 1900's, 18th, 19th, and 20th Century, as well as antiques and primitives and my own contemporary Impressionist & Realist artworks. Our Gallery specializes in antique dog puppy, kitten cat, horse, sheep, wildlife/animal paintings as well as Hudson River Valley School, French Barbizon, Early American Primitive, Early European art, Landscapes, Seascapes, Still Life, Early Victorian, WPA era paintings, Classic Nude Paintings, Antique Pastels from the William Henry Chandler, Glatthar, and Andrew Gunderson Era, Antique Rose/Roses, Pansy/Pansies, other Floral Oils as well as Early American/Primitive Cabinets Cupboards and other items not listed here.  Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
