Description
Exceptional carved marble and alabaster sculpture by renowned artist Antonio Frilli of Florence, Italy. This extraordinary work is circa 1915. Antonio Frilli (1880-1920) considered to be among the greatest sculptors of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Frilli's works are exhibited in over 20 museums worldwide. Numerous pieces are on display in municipal buildings, parks and other public forums around the world. Frilli's works often combined marble with alabaster. This piece is superbly executed with detail one does not often see outside of museums. The Harlequin is carved from marble while the bench he sits upon is made from the highest quality translucent alabaster. The bench features beautifully crafted columns that sit upon a large piece of similar quality alabaster. The entire piece is mounted on an exquisite slab of multi-colored marble. The attention to detail on the Harlequin is superb. Intricate designs are etched into the mandolin as well as the Harlequin's hat. His face is magnificent. The Harlequin motif was very popular during the Art Deco period. Hand applied colors accent the work. "A. Frilli Florence" is hand etched on the back side. (see picture) The condition is quite good with some restoration to the bench behind the figure. Also a small restoration to one foot. One finger on the left hand is missing a small piece. Non of these imperfections affect the asthetics of this wonderful sculpture. We have researched auction prices on Frilli works and found them to sell between $3000 and $50,000+. As with all the items we offer on Ebay, our starting price is far below market value. We are very pleased to be able to offer an original work of art as rare and of such superior quality as this. 15" tall, 10" wide and 7" deep. Thank you for visiting and please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
