The first major producer of items made of uranium glass was Josef Riedel, who named the yellow and yellow-green varieties of the glass "annagelb" and "annagrün", respectively, in honor of his wife Anna Maria.Riedel was a prolific blower of uranium glass in Dolni Polubny, Bohemia from 1830 to 1848. By the 1840s many other glassworks throughout Europe began to produce uranium glass. The Baccarat glassworks of Francecreated an opaque green uranium glass which they named chrysoprase, for its similarity to the green form of chalcedony with that name. At the end of the 19th century, it was discovered that uranium glass with certain additional minerals could be tempered at high temperature to partially crystallise, changing from its normal transparent yellow or yellow-green with increasing opacity to, ultimately, opaque white. This material, technically a glass-ceramic, inspired the name "vaseline glass" due to its similar appearance to petroleum jelly. The normal color of uranium glass ranges from yellow to green depending on the oxidation state and concentration of the metal ions, although this may be altered by the addition of other elements as glass colorants. Uranium glass also fluoresces bright green under ultraviolet light. Pieces of uranium glass are considered to be harmless. The Arts and Crafts movement was a British and American aesthetic movement occurring in the last years of the 19th century and the very early years of the 20th century. Inspired by the writings of John Ruskin and a romantic idealization of the craftsman taking pride in his personal handywork.Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) was a movement that was broad based enough to encompass a whole lifestyle. It was possible to live in an Art Nouveau House with Art Nouveau Furniture, Silverware, Crockery, Jewelry and more.Meaning that it encompasses a hierarchy of scales in design — architecture, interior design, decorative arts including jewelry, furniture, textiles, household silver and other utensils, as well as lighting and the range of visual arts ... In addition to Samuel Bing and his store the movement was defined and promoted by communal workshops, organized groups of designers, and periodicals of the time. The designers centered Art Nouveau in several European cities including Brussels, Nancy & Paris, Amsterdam & DenHaag, Berlin & Dortmund, Barcelona, Glasgow, Prague and Wien ...Just to name some brilliant Arts & Crafts / Art Nouveau Designer here the most popular ones in Belgian & France :Henry van de Velde Victor HortaHector Guimard Émile Gallé Jean & Auguste DaumRené LaliqueLouis MajorelleMaurice DufreneGeorges de Feurein Austria : Otto WagnerGustav Klimt Koloman Moser Josef HoffmannOtto Koloman WagnerJoseph Maria Olbrich in Germany : Peter Behrens Hermann ObristRichard RiemerschmidBruno Paulin Czechoslovakia : Alphonse MuchaLoetz & Co.and in the U.K. :William MorrisCharles Rennie MackintoshCharles Robert AshbeeW.A.S.
