Published by S. Lewis, London, 1849". 55 county maps + map of England & Wales + Plan of London. The maps are drawn by R. Creighton, engraved by J & C Walker. Title page, then the maps (no text). Page size approx 11 1/4" high by 8 1/2" wide - this is the minimum size of each map, but some are larger. Maps hand-coloured in outline. Hardback with boards that are definitely the originals, but I suspect the spine could be a later replacement - if it is, it's not a recent replacement and it has been professionally done. In the list of contents below, if there are no comments against a map it means it is a single-page map in good clean condition. If it says "folding map" without giving a size, it is slightly less than 2 single-pages. 1. England and Wales. Folding map, opening to approx 21" high by 17" wide. Overall, this atlas is in very good condition, the only "problem" being the scattered foxing. (There were two versions of this atlas, one with the counties of England only, the other one (this one) with the counties of England and Wales. This copy is obviously the more desirable).
