¡¡¡AMAZING, HUGE FIFTEENTH-CENTURY NOTARY MANUSCRIPT BY THE ROYAL SECRETARY GONÇALO GONÇALES DE VEGA!!!   HUGE (94 FOLIOS) AND COMPLETE MEDIEVAL LEGAL-NOTARY ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT WRITTEN IN LATIN AND SPANISH ON PARCHMENT. FULLY BOUND IN ITS COMPLETE ORIGINAL BINDING [SPAIN, AVILA, dated August 1415] This is an ORIGINAL (NOT A REPRODUCTION!!!) medieval notary book handwritten and handpainted on (REAL VELLUM AND REAL GOLD LEAF)!!! This is a COMPLETE AND DATED scribal copy of an inquiry which began under Judge Nicolás Pérez, baccalaureus and major of Segovia at Avila, on Sunday 21 January and written down by Gonçalo Gonçales de Vega, scribe to King Fernando I "El Justo" [The Righteous], king of Aragon and Sicily and count of Barcelona (1412-1416).  The subject of the lawsuit was a conflict between Gil Gomes and the city of Avila with its neighboring villages about boundary lines, pasture-land, stone-pine woods, and mountain-estates.  NO OTHER COMPLETE NOTARY RECORD BOOK HAS EVER BEEN SOLD ON EBAY. THIS IS NOT A SINGLE LEGAL DOCUMENT, BUT AN ENTIRE JUDICIAL INQUIRY. COMPLETE RECORDS ARE EXCEEDINGLY RARE!!!. The text is of both juristic and linguistic value. It includes various declarations in Castilian and Latin and cites earlier documents thus offering an interesting collection of documents about Avila and the other places in Central Spain during the Middle Ages. ¡¡¡FOUR-LINE ILLUMINATED INITIALS IN GOLD LEAF!!! This manuscript has two gorgeous and detailed initials. The two large initials has show a delicate artist’s hand with with an amazingly elaborate PURPLE PENWORK DECORATION extending into the margin. Click On Image to Enlarge   Other gorgeous initials and a refined medieval script found in the manuscript Click On Images to Enlarge   Manuscript and Binding Details This manuscript is written in brown ink in an ELEGANT CURSIVE CHANCELLERY BOOKHAND, 29 to 32 long lines per page, text copied in a frame ruled in plummet, old foliation in upper corner, quire signatures are also used. Bound in CONTEMPORARY GREEN SHEEPSKIN over pasteboards, with penned date “1372" and “Notario de Avila” on upper board, date repeated on spine “1372,” traces of the ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT TIES on the cover. CONDITION This manuscript is in EXCELLENT condition. All of the vellum pages are rich and clean. There is one loose quire, and the spine is splitting a little. binding slightly worn, some worm holes on spine, never affecting interior. PROVENANCE This manuscript was orginally produced in Avila, historically one of the most important and flourishing cities in the medieval and modern history of Spain. It was owned by Leonhard Sutter (Switzerland): his bookplate pasted on upper pastedown. Dimensions 260 x 180 mm.
