Description
Solid Brass Antique Surveyor's Compass is marked in very delicate script on face, "Amsler & Wirtz" and below, "Philadelphia". Little info on this company but I believe in business from 1848 to 1861. No labels in box. Dovetailed wooden Box Measures 14 1/2" wide by 8" deep by 4" tall. Compass is measures 14" long, glass portion is 6" diameter. Works well, Very fine markings of numbers around outermost edge for precision, Has brass deivce like the end of telescope screwed on one end and a disk what has finely marked numbers around it on the other. includes one sight. Bottom of box is gone. Box is sturdy . Face has a 1/2" by 1/4" discoloration near the upper left edge and a couple of other spots. Otherwise good condition. I am not knowledgeable in this area so please let me know your questions. I will pack with extreme care. Shipping weight will be 16lbs, box size 24" x 14" x 10". Insurance required.
