Ak Yup is a crucial part of nomad yurts, it holds the layer of wool felt over the round wooden frame.   This particular band:   - Tribal affiliation: Turkoman/Turkmen Yomud - Very clean, off-white background and clearly colored pile geometric pattern - All 100% Turkmen wool - All intact, no repair, tear or moth damage - Approximately 28 feet long - On one end the pile pattern abruptly ends with a fringe - possibly finished in a hurry. - Age: Circa early 1900s - Source: private collector   The pattern portion of the band is 100% pile. The flatweave portion is that end of the band where the main pattern fades into a band of smaller diamond-shaped  rows.
