Antique Folk Art Fireman's Parade Hat with Old Original Paint Here is a beautiful early American fire fighter's or fireman's parade hat, that measures approx. 15 inches long by approx. 13 inches wide. It is an authentic antique one, 19th century, and not a copy or repro of any kind. This rare and delicate item is in completely undisturbed, as-found and all original condition, and is well worth any cleaning, repairs, and conservation that it might need. It is made of compressed felt, and it retains most of it's wonderful original painted decoration. It is marked "Foxboro" in large letters on the back brim, and " On Hand ~ Cocasset 1 " on the front. Foxboro refers to the town of Foxboro, Massachusetts, and " On Hand ~ Cocasset 1 " probably refers to the fire company. (There is a major street in the town of Foxboro named Cocasset Street.) The underside of the brim is marked with the owner's initials, " S. C. ", which probably stands for a member of the Carpenter family, who were a prominent family in Foxboro during the 19th century. This antique fireman's parade hat is completely authentic and unrestored, and is worthy of the most advanced collection of early American fire fighting memorabilia or paint decorated folk art.
