Description
flanagan-laneantiques Store A Louis XVI period commode (or chest of drawers) dating from about 1785, which retains all of its original bronze pulls, marble top, and complete working locks. It is tulipwood veneered over oak, with fine fruitwood pictorial marquetry. To this demilune commode there are three central drawers to the front and a cabinet to each side. A small drawer is above each side cabinet. The marquetry to the front depicts musical instruments and flowers. The marquetry to the cabinet doors depicts flowers/ ribbons/ torches and quivers of arrows (see photographs). Each of the three marquetry images--the one on the front drawers plus the two on the side cabinet doors-- is framed with elaborate "Greek key" inlay. Each of the four vertical stiles (one above each leg) is veneered with chevron pattern tulipwood veneer. The piece is 42 inches wide, 36 inches high, 18 inches deep. It is in excellent condition--undamaged marble, structurally sound construction, with no missing veneer. Requests for more information/photographs are welcome.
