Gunn Furniture Co., Grand Rapids (1890-1958) began as Gunn Folding Bed Co.; name changed in 1898 to Gun Furniture Company, sold to Edsco Hekman & Assoc., 1949 sold to Bergsma Brothers, 1958 dissolved, 1958 Gunn started out in 1890 making folding beds and by the turn of the century had expanded its product line to over 80 designs for desks, as well as sectional bookcases. It patented a stacker in 1899. By 1910 it was a major player in the "elastic" market making sectionals with fold down desk compartments and pigeon hole interiors. Their corporate motto was "You dont get done when you buy Gunn" This bookcase is composed of 4 sections, a base, two middle units with glass doors, and a top. Gunn was a leader in stacking bookcase design and held several patents for this particular design. The beauty of the Gunn products was that they were well made and could be scaled. If you needed more room for books, simply lift the top off, buy a few more middle sections, stack them on top,  and refix the top. Now your 2 shelve bookcase is a 4 or 6 shelve bookcase. The cases have the original tags on them and are in great condition. The cases are made of birch and the entire assemble case measures 41 1/2 inches tall, 12 1/1 inches deep and 34 1/8 inches long. These are outside measurements. If you open the bookcase the shelves measure 10 by 32 1/2 inches. You can put books that are up to 11 inches tall in this case. Hence the model number P 11. The cases, base and top fit nicely together and the only flaw we could find was the the missing knob on the bottom case. The case is available for inspection, just call for an appointment.
