Description
This beautiful, old ship's chronometer was made by Parkinson & Frodsham. I'm not an authority on nautical antiques, so I can't give you the exact time period that this is from. I would guess that it dates from somewhere between the mid 19th century and the early 20th century. You maritime buffs will know, and will bid accordingly. It has not been polished or restored in my lifetime, and I am 50. There appears to be a corner repaired in the wood on the top of the case. I do not know if it actually works, and I have not opened up the works to look at them. I do have a winding key for it. This piece is just waiting for the right person to restore it to its former glory! On Sep-05-08 at 18:29:17 PDT, seller added the following information:I wound this slightly to see what would happen. I did not get a ticking sound, so it would seem there is some need of repair inside the chronometer. While winding it felt as you would expect it should--some spring-like resistance. Also, the glass over the face is intact. And the glass on the box is intact. There are two small scratches on the white part of the face. My son has my camera for the weekend, or I would post more pictures. Good luck bidding!
