Description
Antique plaster fireplace mantle from the 1920's, still in the original crate. I have cleaned out some of the old straw and paper in order to get a look at the mantle. It will be refilled with foam and sealed up before shipment. I will deliver free within 100 mile of Chicago Area, but will use a freight service, such as Yellow Freight to deliver any further at buyer's expense. Though, I have listed a shipping cost of $100, the cost of shipping will be the actual cost as bid from the freight company. I have not weight the item and don't know to where it will be shipping. I purchased this about 30 years ago from the widow of the company that made all of the theater plaster for those old time movie theaters, the most notable of which is the Grauman's Theater in California. When the depression hit, the company went out of business and dumped all of their molds and inventory into Lake Michigan. This was saved by the widow for these many years. It is sold as is, but appears from all inspection to be in pristine condition, although layered with dust. It is difficult to find these in good shape and never as New Old Stock. The mantle measures approximately 50" in length (difficult to get exact measurement in crate) and 7 1/2" in depth. Overall height is 50". The opening is 30" wide and 30 1/2" tall at the peak of the arch. The arch begins at approximately 24" from the hearth. A nice and rare architectural find for the person whose fireplace will work or who is building to suit.
