Fine & Very Rare Chinese Yuan Dynasty Large Blue & White Jar with Oxford TL Test This superb and impressive early blue & white vessel was made during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368), most likely by one of the kilns at Yuxi county in Yunnan province, one of the first places in the world where blue & white ware was produced. The design in underglaze cobalt blue is extremely interesting. Around the shoulder are four panels each with a person engaged in different activities apparently in a garden. Between these panels are flower blossoms and leaves. The middle of the jar is decorated with four panels each contain two ladies engaged in various leisurely pursuits. The lower section of the jar is decorated with elaborate lotus leaves patterns. As with many of our finer items, we have had this vessel tested by Oxford Authentications, the only testers of ancient pottery accepted by all major dealers, auction houses and museums worldwide, and the Thermoluminescence Analysis Report that will accompany this item is shown with our pictures below; this confirms the date of manufacture as "between 600 and 1000 years ago". Height 25.5 cm, diameter 29.5 cm. There are firing cracks to the base and base edge but no repair or restoration. A superb vessel in excellent condition. An alternative to spending £500,000 upwards for a similar sized jar of the same period from the Jingdezehn kilns! Text & Pictures of Item for Sale Copyright © Brian Page Antiques We take a lot of time and trouble over our pictures and item descriptions. If you wish to use our pictures and/or text please ask! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE READ OUR TERMS OF BUSINESS BEFORE BIDDING Although we like to keep our Terms of Business as simple as possible, following eBay's decision to force all UK sellers to offer Paypal as a payment method, we have had to change these. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. GUARANTEE All of our items are Guaranteed to be Genuine and of the Period Stated. Our Guarantee has No Time Limit. With 40 years experience in Asian Art & Antiques with retail premises here in Brighton we are pleased to offer our customers this guarantee without time limit. A genuine antique is, of course, genuine for all time and not just for ten days or a month and so sellers not offering such a guarantee as ours should probably be avoided. We do not sell for other dealers; we sell only our own stock. 2. PAYMENT The easiest, quickest and most convenient payment method is to pay us direct with your debit or credit card, using our secure server. Our invoice will be sent direct to your email address. We do NOT use the eBay invoice system. Paying us direct with your Visa or MasterCard entitles you to the full protection freely and automatically given by your card issuer, not the limited and conditional protection offered by payment intermediaries such as Paypal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other payment methods for customers who cannot pay by credit or debit card: Internet bank transfer (UK customers). Personal cheques (known UK customers only) Bank / wire transfer (for international customers - all bank charges to be paid by the customer at time of transfer). Paypal - only to be used as a last resort, but please read the following: Paypal is an internet payment intermediary. When you use Paypal, you are paying the intermediary to perform a money transfer, not directly paying the seller for the actual item. 1) To comply with Paypal's many and complicated terms and conditions, all items paid for by Paypal must be sent by a postal service that includes online tracking which is more expensive than the standard postal service. 2) Where payment is made by Paypal, we can send the item only to a Paypal "Confirmed Address", so if your Paypal postal address is not "confirmed" please do not pay by Paypal as your payment will not be accepted and you will have to reclaim your payment from Paypal. 3) In some cases, the item will not be sent until payment for that item has been credited by Paypal to our bank account which usually takes Paypal 5 to 7 working days - this is because their terms and conditions allow them on occasion to withhold payment, and we do not send items out before payment has been received ! Please read in full the Paypal terms and conditions (click here) to ensure that you fully understand all of them before making payment by Paypal. Please also see our "Handling & Packing" paragraph below. 3. SHIPPING - POSTAGE, PACKING MATERIALS & HANDLING Postage - we do not inflate our postage costs; we quote to you what the Post Office quotes to us. We use the Royal Mail for inland and overseas shipping, and can use any of their express or guaranteed services if required. FedEx delivery or similar can also be arranged. Estimates of shipping costs can be quoted at any time. Note: Where payment is made by Paypal, an online trackable postal service MUST be used and the item can be sent ONLY to a Paypal "Confirmed" address. Packing Materials: For most items, especially smaller items, we make no charge for packing materials. Although we re-use as much packing material as possible, we may make a nominal charge for new materials used, particularly for larger items that require a lot of bubblewrap for safe packing, which will be at or below our cost price. Handling & Packing: The packing of fragile items takes care and time and we are usually happy to do this without making any charge. Where payment is made direct to us by debit or credit card using our secure server, by bank transfer or by personal cheque we shall waive our handling & packing charge. However, where payment is made by Paypal a handling & packing charge of 4% of the item cost will be made. Whenever possible, multiple purchases are packed together to minimise shipping costs. 4. INSURANCE This is optional and is charged at 2% of the total cost with no minimum charge. The insurance cost is automatically added to the total amount due unless we are advised that insurance is not required. We cannot offer insurance for items sent overseas by surface mail.
