Description
The Rudiments of Botany, Structural and PhysiologicalBeing an Introduction to the Study of the Vegetable Kingdom, and Compromising the Advantages of a Full Glossary of Technical TermsBy Christopher Dresser Published by James S. Virtue, London, 1859Hard Cover1st EditionSize Approx 23 cm by 15 cm433 pages with myriad illustrations in black and white. An excellent copy in theoriginal publisher's cloth with some expected wear to the covers consistent with age and use. Internally it is very clean and bright with no foxing and the binding is very sound. There is a neat previous owner's inscription, dated 1941, on the inside cover. This rare book was Christopher Dresser's first important work and, as such, highly collectible. His later designs in metalwork, ceramics, glass and furniture were grounded in his successful and highly respected academic background in botany and, fascinatingly, you can see his nascent sensibilities for design and pattern in the myriad line illustrations of plants that adorn this volume. Don't miss this opportunity to acquire a truly rare and important book.© Text and photographs by room_606. UK buyers only may also pay by cheque or postal order. If it's a cheque, please allow 7 to 10 days for it to clear. It may be possible for overseas customers to pay by another means, such as bank transfer, but this is by prior arrangement only. All buyers please make contact within 3 days of auction. Payment is required within 7 days. Non-paymentAll non-paying bidders are, without exception, reported to eBay. This is not for the sake of being vindictive, but because eBay charges retrospective fees calculated on the actual sale price of items and this money needs to be retrieved. Believe it or not, it's hard enough to make ends meet on here as it is! Thank you for your understanding. Please refer to eBay's policy on non-payment for more information, including its ramifications for the bidder.Condition of itemsPlease note that, unless clearly stated otherwise, my listings are for vintage/antique items and therefore, by definition, are not going to be in the same condition you would expect from a brand new item. Please be assured that I always endeavour to offer the most accurate description possible of the item's condition and take multiple illustrative photographs. Vintage electrical itemsUnless clearly stated otherwise in the description, vintage electrical items are sold in their original condition so should be safety checked by an electrician before use. ReturnsReturns are possible, if reported within 7 days and by prior arrangement, if a mistake has been made in the listing and the item is not as described, but for no other reason. I'm afraid that straightforward buyer's remorse does not qualify and the cost of return postage is not included in any refund. k Please don't hesitate to e-mail me to ask any questions not covered above; I always answer as quickly as possible. Thanks very much for taking the time to read this and best of luck bidding!
