Description
This is a very fine concert violin from the mid 1800s. A very excellent choice of wood and varnish, it is fully lined and blocked, in very good condition. There are no cracks or repairs found anywhere on the instrument. Finely carved scroll and very beautiful workmanship. It is labelled as an Antonio Stradivarius. Local shops have remarked on the high quality of the wood, workmanship and beautiful tone. We have an old paper mentioning how it was purchased in London from Italian Importers in the late 19th century. This violin is wonderful for all types of playing, but particularly for solo and ensemble work. It has a beautiful, warm and dark robust tone. There is a presence and charm to the instrument and a particular sweetness and complex tone under the ear, a "golden tone." The sound is very even from the low to the high end and projects wonderfully. A delight to play! The measurements: Total Length: 23.5" Body: 14" Upper Width: 6.5" Middle Width: 4.5" Lower Width: 8.25" It is one of the nicest sounding instruments we've come across.
