Description
- It is rare to be able to find in such a condition a daisho koshirare set. We don't usually offer these as they hard to come by and are often overpriced and/or are in poor condition.- Overall length of each is 95cm for the katana, and 60cm for the wakizashi. The same covering each of the saya is in very good condition. The rayskin on the tsuka is also in very good condition. The set of menuki are all matching (daisho menuki) and the motif on the shakudo nanako kodzuka's handle all match: "omoto". The kodzuka is certainly Momoyama period, and it is likely that the menuki are as old. - The fuchi are both signed (see photos). The signatures read: Tokosai Tsunetoshi. The tsuba are daisho tsuba, Shoami school and are not signed. Natural iron (tetsuji). - The set of daisho saya dates to the end of the Edo/early Meiji period (1860s- late 1800s) and is not of recent manufacture. As for the explanation of the condition of the very good condition of the kodzuka, and tsuka (even the ito is not new, but late Edo), it was obviously well-preserved/taken care-off. No damage whatsoever anywhere on either of the items. Slight restoration work o the saya (koiguchi relacquered).
