View More ANTIQUE MAPS in My Ebay Store Printed in 1890, this is a beautiful, 118-year-old full color map of the Organized Territory of Dakota. It measures about 22 by 13 1/2 inches (about 55 by 34 cm.), and is in FINE condition. This map contains a large amount of topographical detail (mountains, rivers, elevations, drainage, etc.), as well as counties, cities and villages, Indian reservations, military installations, mining towns, routes of old railroads and more. Terrain elevations and drainage on this map are indicated with hachures, as was customary in 19th century cartography. This map even shows several ghost towns, no longer in existence today. This is a pretty unique map of the Dakotas. It was obviously engraved before statehood (1889) as the title "Dakota" and the lack of a boundary between north and south shows. But some time before the map went to press, the new statehood status was hurriedly achknowledged (or perhaps anticipated) by adding "North Dakota" and "South Dakota". This is a guaranteed genuine antique map!It comes complete with certificate of authenticity documenting source, maker and date of printing. Perfect for genealogy or historical research, not to mention being highly decorative, this map was printed on a single sheet of stock, hinged in the center, and bound whole in an antique book. HIGHLY SUITABLE FOR FRAMING! It would look great in your office, den, library or study, or even more formal setting such as living room.
