FAB 19thC FRENCH BIZARRE NEEDLEPOINT TAPESTRY PILLOW 1 This fabulous decorator pillow is made from mid 19th century French hand embroidered needlepoint (circa 1860/70), now rare and very hard to find in this condition. A large cushion (see below) the woolwork depicts a design known as 'The Bizarre pattern' that consists of flowers, leaves, fruit (pineapple type motif, lower left) and curveniliar forms, intrinsic shapes that form this wonderful and complex pattern . Worked in multi-coloured wools on a black ground....brightly coloured yarn was popular during this era and this hasn't faded at all....completed but unused, stored away and forgotten...... ......it was actually part of a fabulous border to frame the central panel of a rug, only the central panel was either never made or became separated from the border somewhere in time - we will offer more pillows made from this textile of extraordinary beauty in future listings. We have trimmed the cushion around all four sides with vintage French silk fringe passementerie in a coordinating shade of green......a thick dense trim - we only use antique or vintage trims to embellish our pillows - never repro - as our personal feeling is that older textiles deserve older trims to compliment them. The reverse side is vintage cotton velvet in a shade of 'dusky' green.... (it's a beautiful, dense, colour....no patchy areas, that's just light reflection bouncing off the pile). A fabulous cushion that will work in many room settings including antique, traditional and country style. It's a beautiful decorative accessory created entirely from old textiles that will add character and timeless beauty to your home. Waxed cambric is a strong casing that contains the feather and down and prevents the feathers escaping.
