HENKELS, PHILADELPHIA IMPRESSIVE, COMPLETE EIGHT PIECE PARLOUR SET Pictured in the Reference Book, AMERICAN FURNITURE OF THE 19TH CENTURY 1840'S - 1880'S BY EILEEN AND RICHARD DUBROW.  THIS SET IS THE EXACT SPECIMEN OF THE PARLOUR FURNITURE PICTURED ON PAGE 88 & 116 AND LISTED AS FROM THE ARNOT HOUSE WHICH WAS BUILT IN 1833.  POST THE DUBROW PUBLICATION, IT IS WIDELY CONSIDERED THAT THE MAKER OF THIS FINE FURNITURE WAS GEORGE HENKELS. They picture the exact same sofa, arm and ladies chair with skirt panels and a side chair, without skirt panels, that this set contains four of .  This complete eight piece set features floral and leaf carved crests, open laminated rosewood scrolls inside the frame, serpentine seats and solid rosewood frame construction. We had the entire set restored and upholsterd in a beautiful tone on tone gold DAMASK fabric upholstery.  Truly a RARE FIND AND IT IS OUR PLEASURE TO OFFER THIS WONDERFUL PARLOUR SET IN EXCELLENT RESTORED CONDITION, circa 1850's.  We have observed two old leg reinforcements and minor repairs to a small amount of the laminated scrolls. GEORGE J. HENKELS 1819 - 1883 WAS ACTIVE IN HIS CABINET SHOP FROM 1843 TO 1877 AND WAS PARTICULARLY KNOW FOR HIS RICH CARVINGS IN THE RENAISSANCE AND ROCOCO REVIVAL STYLES.  HENKELS WAS PHILADELPHIA'S ANSWER TO NYC'S FINE CABINET SHOPS OF BELTER & MEEKS AND IS WIDELY COMPARED TO THEM.
