THANKS!!!!!!!!                                  ITEM DESCRIPTION IS AS FOLLOWS:                Up for auction today is a 100% museum qualifying Gorham napkin ring or award presentation holder. I am saying this because it has a date and initials scripted on the out side. You can see in the pictures that this was hand engraved in 1911 .The dates are spanning from 1861 to 1911. I am not sure if this was a rare Gorham napkin ring that someone turned into an award presentation ring or if this was an item that Gorham sold for this specific use. As you can imagine trying to find anything out about the types of gold items that gorham manufactured is very hard. All the historical material that I found told me that they did in fact make items of this kind in Gold although they were rare and did not go into details. I am a jeweler so I looked at the napkin ring closely on the inside to try and determine if this was hand cut out or die struck or casted. It was hard to be sure but my best guess is that some imperfections on the edges where the pattern cuts are seemed to be replicated for several sections along the outer part of the pattern near the edge. This would indicate to me that it was casted or die struck with an imperfection in the die or the wax that was reproduced. This ring measures 2" inches across and 1.3/8" inches tall . The Gold weight is 23 grams of solid 14.k   {{ Not Gold Plate }} in addition I did perform an acid test on this to verify the gold content purity.This  napkin ring is in excellent condition and probably sat in a drawer for almost 100 years.The intitials read  MJR as far as I can tell. I would ask that you please be the judge of what it says. As far as measurment goes if I wrap a string around the out side lip and unravel it and then measure it I get 6.5 inches .I hope that helps you to understand the dimentions a little better . I have a fairly high reserve on this item to ensure i do not sell this to low because I am selling this for a long time friend who is elderly and I want to get her the most for this.
