Description
Highly Illuminated Arabic Manuscript, Dated 1799. al-Jazūlī, Abū `Abd Allāh Muhammad Ibn Sulaymān Ibn `Abd ar‑Rahmān Ibn Abū; Bakr (d. 870 of the Islamic calendar, corresponding to 1460 AD). DALĀ'IL AL-KHAYYIRĀT (Guide to Good Deeds). This is one of the most famous books of prayer in Islamic literature. 77 leaves; size: 12 x 19.8 cm; written surface: 6.4 x 13.2 cm; in beautiful, elegant, and clear naskhī script, in black ink, with keywords and markings in red ink, on beige paper, 11 lines to a page. The Arabic text is completely vocalized. All pages are ruled in gold throughout. All sentences are separated in gold circles. The opening page, and leaf 15b are illuminated in gold, blue, and red, other colors. Pages 13b and 14a contain two full‑page, miniatures, one of them representing the Ka`bah in Mecca, the other the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad in the Medina Mosque. It was written by the master calligrapher Ahmad al-Hāzim, one of the students of `Abd al-Karīm ar-Rashād in the year 1214 AH/1799 AD. Contemporary brown morocco, with a flap in the style of Islamic binding, rebacked, both covers are blind stamped with central medallion in gilt. An excellent copy.
