Description
An exceptional bracket clock with original bracket, dating from the eighteenth century and signed by maker, H. Lippens, Brussels. Standing 26 inches tall on a 7 inch tall bracket, the pair is 31 inches high when mounted on wall. The clock and bracket with a faux tortoise finish, both decorated with fine gilt mounts. This style of clock is commonly known as a Neuchatel Clock, in reference to the Swiss town where they were especially popular. This clock retains its original verge 8 day movement (with silk suspension for pendulum), original porcelain dial (9 inches in diameter), original gilt hands, and original gilt pendulum. Original lock to front door, for access when setting time and winding clock. The clock has calendar work (the third hand indicates date of month) and unusual striking. It strikes out the full time every half hour--using two bells (of different pitch) to distinguish between top of hour and half hour time. This striking system is known as Dutch Striking. The movement has been fully serviced recently, is fully operational and accurate, running the full 8 day cycle, striking the proper time, and indicating the proper date. With proper winding key. All items we sell are guaranteed to be as described. This clock is in excellent, undamaged, condition. Contact us for a shipping quote to foreign countries.
