Description
Probably constructed about 1820, this New England pine board open hutch is fantastic! It just came out of an 1810 farmhouse in western Massachusetts that is being sold, home was in the same family all these years and the contents were recently auctioned off. Pine boards on the sides were red-wash painted as seen in photos, remaining wood is natural, some light shallac put on the interior at some point does not deter from appearance. CORRECTION ON DESCRIPTION ADDED 10/08/2008: Boot jack bottom sides are original, the house that the hutch was made for had uneven floors, so the old bootjack back feet were made shortened as compared to the front. The two small feet that are available are if you want to "level" the hutch". The feet did not "pop-off" as I had originally described, the shortened feet are nicely worn from years of use on the uneven floors. The two spare "feet extensions" could be used to level the hutch on an even floor. Massive construction measuring 60" wide, 84 1/2" in height, 18 1/4" deep, complete with five 18" deep single board shelves and two 14 1/4" scalloped edged shelves for a total of seven! Each shelf and both sideboards are a full 13/16" and 15/16" thickness respectively. Each shelf has primitive plate notch from left to right and great smooth wear. Rear boards are 14" to 16" wide, full height, four boards total. Original flat or smooth headed square nails perfectly in place and never reapaired or replaced. Top molding appears original to the piece, early board similar to backboard stock. There is some evidence that when built it was intended to have doors as there are nicely finished notches (cutouts) for three hinges on each side, but I cannot image that doors on this large piece would have survived long. Please email with any questions. Due to the very large size of this piece you can either pick it up here in Douglas, Mass. or I can deliver free up to 50 miles, $40 for 100 miles, beyond 100 miles delivery would be $40 plus 35 cents per mile, maximum 350 miles. This item to be listed once before it goes to it's first show. Take advantage of a great opportunity to obtain this piece at a very reasonable Buy-it-Now price, delivered to your home.
