However, we may only ship this item to a USA address to remain in accordance with eBay policies and regulations. *** Masterpiece Chinese Ivory Large Covered Urn, or Covered Vase, Circa 19th Century. Beautiful workmanship with many fine details to the carvings of the figures and landscape features. The cover is carved with an Immortal seated upon a qilin holding a scepter in one hand and the horn of the qilin in the other. The high relief carving of the figure shows his facial features, robe tied with a long cord, and sandals. The animal is carved with an open mouth, long whiskers, scales and hooves. It stands on a platform above a band of downward leaves and key-fret border. The upper frieze of the urn is carved with two beast-head handles supporting loose rings. A parade of deities on foot, horseback, cart and buffalo encircle the urn between key-fret borders and auspicious clouds. The body of the urn is carved with an elaborate landscape scene with numberous figures attending to their daily activities amid pavilions, courtyards, trees and flowers. Below that is a border of upright leaves, and the Eight Immortals flanked by key-fret forders. Each immortal is carved with undercuts and great attention to detail to the facial features, robes and their auspicious attributes. The base is carved with four Chinese characters within a circular band incised with dragons and a flaming pearl. Height overall: 42 cm. (16.4 in.), Width: 12.7 cm. (5 in.) Condition: Repair to upper body and face of Immortal on cover and small opening in top of head that can be repaired. Very good carving technique and numerous detailed figures.
