Welcome to our auction for a great early document comprising important information about the differences and conflicts between the catholic church and the religious orders in the XVIII century. The conflicts about tithes promoted against the Society of Jesus in Mexico, has its origins in the privileges obtained by religious orders not to pay this tax. This exemption from tithes unpleasant the Cathedral Church and the secular clergy, who lost part of their income. These conflicting interests originated from the outset serious conflict and litigation. In 1645, the Fiscal Council Indies, because the Royal Patronage, issued a judgement in this case, in favour of the Churches against religious orders. The lawsuit, which had already been 85 years, would continue for many years to come. The Company appealed this ruling to the Board of the thousand and five hundred; other religions, although at first had promised to continue the Company in its appeal, were desistiendo gradually and paved the judgement. It was 1735, this lawsuit had lasted more than one hundred and twenty years. That is why the lawsuit on court which is published in this form, becoming an important source for the study of tithes in colonial Mexico. Its author, and Juan Jose de Araujo Castro, was one of the most prestigious lawyers in civil and ecclesiastical courts of Mexico at that time, and defended more than one occasion in the interests of Metropolitan Cabildo.
