Description
A modernist desk top weather station by Lufft Metall-Barometer Fabrik GmbH, Stuttgart, designed c.1935A stunning Bauhaus-era design, the weather station comprises a barometer, hygrometer, thermometer and compass. It is executed in brass, lacquered metal and glass. The weather station measures about 17.5cm in height and the diameter of the base is approximately 12cm. The condition is very good indeed with expected minor surface wear in places, but no damages such as dents, scratches or other significant damages to the metal. A small piece of lacquer is missing from the top (see pic 1), but in my opinion this this does not detract from its visual impact. It appears to be in working order and has instructions for use printed (in German) on the underside. Since this is an antique object, the weather station is here being sold as a decorative item of design history interest where functionality can not be guaranteed.ReferencesA chromium plated example of this rare item appeared at Sotheby's London in November 1996 (see pic 3). The sale was truly groundbreaking as it was one of the first major international auction house sales to focus on Bauhaus design.
