Museum Quality Heavily Carved Oak Antique Bedroom Set #14307 Start Price USD 4,850.00 Current Price USD 4,850.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Friday, August 29, 2008 End Time Friday, September 05, 2008 Location Fairfield, ME See more about 'Museum Quality Heavily Carved Oak Antique Bedroom Set' Description Today we are listing this museum quality, heavily carved oak bedroom set from the 1920s-1930s.  This outstanding set is primarily constructed of oak, with an exceptional abundance of detailed accent woods including burl walnut, straight grain walnut, olive burl ash, straight grain ash, tiger sawn oak, & straight grain oak.  Honestly, the effect is truly remarkable, and I do not hesitate to say that this is one of the most spectacular bedroom sets we have ever come into our hands in our 35+ years of the antique business.  The set consists of: ·        A beautiful heavily carved full size bed; ·        An extra large carved mirrored dresser; ·        An exceptional tall chest; ·        A wonderful carved vanity chair; ·        And the paramount French style curved front, triple mirror vanity, which stands out as one of the most remarkable vanities we’ve seen.    Some noteworthy features: ·        The mirrors are original with a deep, beveled acid cut, so it shows an outside edge that really isn't beveled, but it appears so.  The mirrors have an age-old haziness to them that contributes to the character, but if you prefer to have clear glass, it’s easy to replace the old mirrors with new.  Personally, though, we prefer the original, as it’s not easy to find the old acid cut mirrors, so we left them in. The glass that is in it cannot be duplicated; all that you can do is replace it with modern plate glass—your call. ·        The set has been refinished in our own restoration shop, and has come out brilliantly.  ·        This set came from a first-class Massachusetts estate, along with many other exceptional items, which of course is further indication that this set is of the highest quality. ·        All the pieces in the set have carved notch feet, Jacobean style carving throughout, and the wonderful finials on the footboard and headboard match the finials on the mirrors, and on the unusual vanity and dresser.  There is exquisite detailed carving with picture frame molding, and all the drawers are dovetailed. ·        The unique, heavy tall chest has two picture frame molded panel doors on the top with a wonderful carved column in the center & it opens up with a shelf in the back.  It has 45-degree angle corners with picture frame molding made of olive ash and walnut sides.  The oversize base has a drawer that is an exceedingly 11-½ inches deep.  The carved block front divided area is an attractive feature. This piece also sports a brass label stating that the Williamsport Furniture Company of Williamsport, Pennsylvania sold this set.  We are not positive that they are the makers, as we suspect that this set is more likely a Berkley & Gay than anything. Underneath of the large, deep drawer, there are two smaller drawers with both picture frame molded panels and it also sports big, bold bun feet.  The size of the tall chest is 43 inches wide, 23 inches deep, and the overall height is 55 inches.  This very heavy and unique chest is of nothing but the highest quality. ·        The next item is an incredible three drawer oversize chest with mirror.  It has wonderful, big, deep, divided drawers that are 7 inches deep.  Check out the coin tray and a jewelry section in the photos, what an excellent & luxurious feature!!  On the outside, there are striking multi beveled edges along the top, and a multitude of carvings on this piece such as: carved columns, carved raised panels, carved diamond points on the mirror, notched finials on the top, and bun feet on the base.  It also comes with all its original hardware.  The dresser is 55 inches wide, 25 inches deep, 37 inches to the top of the dresser base, and the overall height is 82 inches tall.  ·        The elegant full size bed features a triple molded panel footboard with beautiful carved details such as carved columns, carved finials, carved feet and a carved headboard.  This bed comes with deep, wide, solid wooden rails as well. The overall size on the outside dimensions is 58 inches wide, the height of the footboard is 32 inches high, and the height of the headboard is 54 inches high.  The inside dimensions for mattress purposes is 54 inches wide and 75 inches long.  This bed also comes with some original bed slats that will hold up the box spring mattress.        ·        The next item is the carved vanity chair.  Sets of this caliber are often missing the vanity chair, and we are pleased to say that this one remains.  The overall size is 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep, 36 inches to the top of the chair back, and 19 inches high to the seat.  This is really a lovely chair with its multi turn spindle back, a raised panel center, and a triple finial back.  It also has large bun feet in the front, flared cross stretchers, and a new upholstered seat with a gorgeous pattern that adds plenty of charm and character.  ·        Last, but certainly not least is our absolute favorite: the triple mirrored vanity.  If you don’t fall in love with it, we just don’t know what to say!  This has the most exquisite, most unusual demi-lune design on the front with fabulous lift top jewelry boxes on the sides, gorgeous flip out demi-lune carved notched drawers that come out semi-circle shaped, a sturdy triple-legged front, and a picture frame mirrored back. Look at the pictures on this one, folks!!
