For the last few weeks, needle work and sewing items from a New England collectors estate have been offered. The collection spanned the 19th and 20th centuries and contained items from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Up for auction are 14K gold plated, engraved grabado decorated embroidery scissors and thimble. These were made in Spain and each is marked with the Spanish town famous for the manufacture of steel: TOLEDO. The scissors were in the paper case, are in excellent condition and measure 3 1/2". One tip is flat but this seem to be the way they were made. Still sharp! The thimble is about 3/4" high and around 5/8" across. Also in excellent condition. Attached is a tag written by the collector indicating she purchased these in Spain; a magazine clipping advertising these is also included. Bidding starts at $30 with no reserve.
